Sorry for those of you who are tired of reading of Army, Army, Army but it is tense time... :-)
The rumor mill is in action and the deploment dates might change yet again. This time it will be in our favor. However, it is likely because all the soliders currently in Iraq are staying an extra three months. Anyway we will see what comes out officially tomorrow.
For the last deployment I chose to ignore all news and media. I really didn't read or listen to anything. If I was in a hotel lobby and the news was on I ignored it. This time I am not sure what I will do but while he is home I am hooked on the reports. The regular news gets pretty lame, they all report the same thing and there is rarely much insight in the stories, so I look for the good stuff. I remember when I gave people advice not to watch when their loved ones were deployed. So this recommendation I am about to give may not be for you :-)
There is a series running on PBS that looks pretty interesting. It is called "America At A Crossroads" and runs every night this week. It is on at 9pm in my local area but it might be different in your timezone. I am really excited about this series because it addresses the different issues in different episodes rather than squishing them all into one. I might be setting high expectations, but we will see. Tonight I will watch the first one but I am MOST interested in Monday's airings. Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience will address the issues of our families, society and economy welcoming home those men and women who have served. I can vouch they don't come home the same. For those of us who have wecomed someone home you know know that they all have some stories and then some other experiences they don't want to share. Warriors will feature 10th Mountain soliders before Dave joined them. Check out their sense of humor. Watch the whole thing, the last line is hilarious...This is kind of attitude is what keeps them sane while they are in Iraq.
