The leaves are gone and the ice is upon us. I haven't been going outside much during daylight because it is usually dark by about 4pm. Then on Sunday I noticed there is already a nice bunch of "ice waves" forming up around the lake. I saw a bird standing on the stream, so that must be frozen over.
Where have all the leaves gone?
Winter has begun and thus we winterize. I know all you friends and family in CA have no idea what this means but I have learned after freezing my tush off for a couple of cold winters up here. Winterizing means:
- Spending about $250+ on your car to make sure you have the right tires, the right no freeze wiper fluid, the right oil, the right filters, the right tires, gear in case you get stuck in a snow bank (you have no idea how many cars I see off the side of the road up to their windows in snow), the list goes on and on....
- Getting out the right clothes...we don't understand what coats are really for in CA. Layers and layers of clothes to keep bundled...even in the house.
- Finding some good soup recipes.
- Maybe buying an exercise video or two because you aren't doing much outside.
- Remembering to DRIVE SLOW! Ice is everywhere.
- Stocking up on apple cider.
- Lining your windows...This is just for us up here in the vintage homes of the North Country. You literally saran-wrap your windows to prevent the draft from chilling the house. When I first saw this at our friends house a couple of years ago, I thought, how tacky, do they really have saran-wrap on their windows...It isn't saran-wrap but it sure looks like it. After a few $350 heating bills saran-warp could be the new style!
Dave is Winterizing!
I'm supervising!

I miss Sackets dearly but I do NOT miss the saran wrap windows :)
